The chorus of protest against the memorandum of 45 Muslim MPs to the PM seeking protection of minorities and the RSS demand to derecognise the minorities has created widespread fear among Muslims, Christians, Sikhs & secularists, if we go by the spate of letters received at our office here.
The RSS gen. secretary, Rajendra Singh, in his statement criticizing the memo says “a Muslim thinks of his co-religionists first and of his country and the party later.” But he has nothing to say about the Hindu mayor of Baroda and other Hindu corporators belonging to different parties jointly resigning from the Baroda Corporation to protest against the transfer of the notorious Baroda Police Commissioner who had been charged by the Gujarat Govt. itself of Hindu bias. When Hindus gang up against Muslims, Christians and other weaker sections what else the persecuted minorities could do but demand self protection? The only fault of the Muslim MPs was that they demanded protection from the hands of the aggressors. If making such a simple demand amounts to communalism, we will then have to redefine the word communalism. The Hindu critics of the Muslim MPs have nothing to say about the PM Indira Gandhi refusing to meet the MPs. On the other hand, we are surprised by even a sober, secular-minded daily like the Statesman (Dec. 19, 1982) editorially justifying the PM’s stand. It says “she is not convinced that the methods adopted by these MPs will either further the legitimate interests of Muslims or strengthen communal harmony”. The RSS and other Hindu leaders also defended the PM’s snub to Muslim MPs. Is it not clear from this that when it comes to the interests of minorities, the opposition parties, the “‘national press” and the ruling party all think alike? Where then ideology governs political parties? In a country where secularism is skin deep, it should be the duty of Left parties to stand by the under dog but unfortunately not so in India. The very fact that the Communist parties refused to comment on the MPs memo shows that even they are more Hindu where minority interests are involved. In West Bengal, CPM leaders themselves are leading the attack on Christians (DV. Dec. 15-30). The very fact that of the 65 Muslim MPs in the Indian Parliament, 45 MPs cutting across party differences for the first time jointly submitted an appeal clearly indicates the nervousness of Muslim community. That the ruling party MPs also joined this shows the gravity of the situation. The Organiser (Dec. 26) says the MPs tried to meet PM thrice, but “she had no patience with the aggressive Muslim lobby”. The Organiser editorial says that the memo indicated that the Muslims are “more interested in defaming the Govt. and the people of India.” Impartial observers have gone through the memo but they do not share this opinion. No where the memo defames the govt., a job in which the RSS specialises. The moment A. B. Vajpayee or his boss, Deoras, open their mouth they have some thing vulgar to vomit about Mrs. Gandhi. They have been making personal allegations against her all of which are on record. She knows this too well and her Intelligence officials showed us a record of them. On the other hand, the Muslims and Christians have been loyal to her, voting her party every time. It was RSS which did not like M. K. Gandhi befriending the Muslims and finally asked a Poona RSS activist to kill the “Father of the Nation”. It was again RSS that was accused of killing Sanjay Gandhi as revealed by a MP in the Lok Sabha. Neither Dr. Rafique Zakaria nor Syed Shahabuddin, the respected secular- minded Muslim MPs, could be accused of defaming the Govt or the PM. The Organiser says that Muslim MPs “who are Muslims, do not represent only Muslims”. This is true of Hindu MPs and MLAs. There is no communal electorate in India. But in a secular society the responsibility is more on the majority community – Hindus. Are they behaving as elder brothers protecting the interests of younger, weaker ones? What happened at Baroda? Even a Hindu leader like the ex-Maharaja of Baroda was forced to say that the Baroda police have lost the confidence of the local Muslims. Why did the Hindus as a whole oppose the transfer of a notorious Police Commissioner on whom RSS has showered the choicest praise? Will the RSS praise anybody without any substantial reason? Even Union Home Minister P. C Sethi had substantial reasons to find fault with the behaviour of the Police Commissioner. When Hindus become blind to facts and attack minorities in unison, what else could the minorities do but urge the Govt. to give them protection? Does the RSS mean to say that even the Govt. belongs to Hindus? Did the minorities attack the Hindus? No. They are the victims and it was these 45 MPs as representatives of the victims asked for self-protection. How could such a natural action be described as communal? How could such a action be termed guilty? RSS wants Muslims to migrate to other countries. Who are these RSS people to give such an advice? Do they mean to say India belongs to only Hindus and minorities have no place here? And what Hindus are they representing except the Banias, Brahmins and some landed upper castes – the top 10% of the society? What is the percentage of the votes it secures to speak on behalf of India? Whatever it is, the commendable unity displayed for the first time by the Muslim MPs has unnerved the RSS and its admirers even in the ruling party. As days pass political parties are proving irrelevant in India. Since caste is “class” in India and minorities are persecuted in India because they are not Hindus, Muslim MPs are fully justified in joining together to seek self defence. Such a realization is coming among Sikhs, Dalits, tribals, Christians and even among OBCs. Meanwhile, there are reports of Congress leaders becoming strange bed fellows of RSS. The Karnataka Chief Minister Gundu Rao, violating the secular principles of his Govt., performed the unusual act of inaugurating the Brahmins conference here recently. The conference was arranged by top functionaries of the RSS, and Gundu Rao, a Brahmin, sat on the dais with these leaders. RSS leaders claimed they discussed the problems faced by Brahmins. That means on the issue of protecting Brahmin interests RSS and Cong – I leaders think and act alike. Is it not a clear proof that in India caste is the ideology and not political parties? The non-Brahmin president of the Karnataka BJP, A. K. Subbiah, who had to face the ire of his party bosses, also happened to be the arch-rival of Gundu Rao, both hailing from the same district of Coorg. The Brahmin interests being the upper most, the RSS bosses have cut Subbiah to size and he is understood have complained that he was made victim of Brahminism. He also complained that RSS was interested in the victory of Cong-I in Karnataka, and hence put up BJP candidates in the current Assembly elections so that Opposition votes were split and Cong-I came back to power, and Gundu Rao was put back in power. “Where then is the difference between RSS & Cong-I?”, Subbiah was reported to have asked. He is frustrated as he was also denied party ticket to contest against Gundu Rao as he was sure to defeat Rao. He has plenty of evidence to prove that there is a secret understanding between the RSS and the ruling party. Immediately after the elections, he is sure of getting expelled from BJP. Another strong proof of the understanding is the Congress ticket given to a top RSS leader, Mallur Ananda Rao, heading a RSS training school, also to Miss Pramila who was responsible for starting two communal riots in Bangalore. Many Ministers in Cong-I itself admit that there is hardly any difference between the ideology of RSS and theirs. In fact, RSS has asked some of its top brains to infiltrate Congress and Janata parties. Dr. Subramanian Swamy, Janata party leader and a top RSS functionary, is one such. He is trying to oust Chandra Shekar to become the Janata chief. There are many such wolves in sheep’s clothing. Vasanth Sathe in the Indira Cabinet is yet another Trojan horse. RSS is building up in a big way to take over India after Indira Gandhi. Reports received by us and checked up with Intelligence authorities reveal that the RSS is all set to takeover India in another five years. Balasaheb Deoras, a clever operator unlike his predecessor, completely overhauled the RSS policies to suit the needs of the times. Guru Golwalkar, true to the Brahmin tradition, had declared war on Dalits and minorities, but Deoras realised the dangers of such an open hostility, which would fetch no votes, and hence he suitably changed the policies and adopted the “Gandhian socialism”, started numerous front organisations, borrowed heavily from Indira Gandhi’s policies, befriended the Dalits by wooing Ambedkar, launched a massive drive to Hinduise Dalits and tribes. The RSS has started several training units giving lot of job opportunities for Brahmin youths each one is paid a monthly salary of Rs. 500 and above. It has established RSS shakhas for Defence officers. In Delhi there is an IAS shakha. In Bangalore, RSS has just completed a ten-storeyed massive building to house its publication wing, Rastrothana Parished. A non-Brahmin employee working in the office gave full details of the funds RSS is getting and the money spent on the building. The entire building is not sufficient to house the publication wing. One can imagine the extent of its publication activities. Viswa Hindu Parished has 5,000 branches in 32 countries and is functioning in all the 435 districts of India (Organiser, Nov. 28). Many Christian tribes in Nagaland, Megahalaya, Tripura have come back to Hindusim, it claims. Over Rs. 5 crores have been collected only to Hinduise the Dalits & tribes. A RSS-sponsored conference being held at Meenakshipuram is itself actively supported by the MGR govt. of TN. In the death of ‘Sarkari Sant’, Vinoba Bhave, it lost its main link with Indira Gandhi who was persuaded to ban cow slaughter in a major portion of India. Perhaps, barring West Bengal, Tripura and Kerala – the other States have fallen in line. According to sources close to the RSS Cell in the Intelligence Dept. of the Govt of India (our information is that the RSS has infiltrated even this Cell), RSS is all set to takeover. Funds no problem. In fact RSS gets quicker information than the Govt. or military. They are waiting only for the Indira Regime to end. It has innumerable agents within the AIR, TV, Defence, RAW and many key sectors of the Govt., right in PM’s House itself. Menaka Gandhi is actively guided by RSS men. The coming few years are crucial, they say. BJP is confident to succeed Indira Gandhi, they say.
