The conflict between upper castes and Muslims over Ayodhya has assumed political colors under the disguise of religious sanctity. But for Buddhists, the city of Ayodhya which was formerly known to the Buddhist world as “Saket” Is as holy as Lumbini, Buddha-Gaya, Kushinara and all other similar sacred places of Buddhists. Buddha had spent 25 years in Kosala country and more than six years In Saket, preaching his Dhamma. Asoka the Great, erected stupa over, the Relles, Tathagata’s nails and hair, thus making it a holy place for Buddhist faith, reverence and sanctity. Apart from this there are numerous other reasons which render sanctity to Ayodhya as a prominent pilgrimage center for the Buddhist world. And hence it is none other than Saket which is a “sanctum sanctorum” for the Buddhists. Therefore, it must be restored to the Buddhists. Ayodhya is not Ayodhya, it is Saket and if Ayodhya Is somewhere then surely it exists outside India, A detailed report about the facts concerning the historical. geographical and archaeological evidences in support of this claim, shall be published in the DV shortly.
