New Delhi: The committee on the welfare of Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs) on March 12 pulled up the management of the Indian Airlines for leaving a shortfall in the recruitment of SCs/STs.in its sixth report on the ministry of civil aviation, tabled in Parliament, the committee said the shortfall was more noticeable in technical categories such as pilots, engineers, senior navigation instructors and other technical and computer officers. There was a backlog of 60 vacancies in the pilots’ cadre and the management was not able to find suitable SC/ST candidates for these posts. The management was able to recruit only ten SC/ST pilots during the last three years, including some pilots from Indira Gandh Academy. (Times of India, March 13)
