Bangalore: Fifty-six years of Brahminical rule has not only converted India into a beggar nation but – made its ruling class first-rate lazy lots.
India has the highest number of holidays in a year and yet the salaried class is not satisfied. It wants more and more holidays.
201 holidays, 164 working days
New Delhi: Innumerable holidays outnumbering working days in the Govt. on May 7 perturbed the elders, who demanded limiting the number of national holidays to just three: The issue was raised in the Rajya Sabha. Govt. employees enjoyed as many as 201 holidays out of 365 days in a year, outnumbering the working days which came to just 184, a Congress member said. Nowhere in the world were so many holidays given to govt. employees. The Fifth Pay Commission, apart from recommending revival of the six-day week, had suggested only three. national holidays— Republic Day, Independence Day and Gandhi’s birthday, he said. (PTI — Hindu, May 8, 2003).
The figure quoted above did not include many other paid holidays. The rising number of holidays — sometimes one whole week — does not perturb our ruling class. Rather, it wants more holidays, more merriment, more enjoyment, more entertainment — all at other’s cost. Please read our book, India’s Intellectual Desert, DSA-1999.
