A Convert Speaks

Thousands of untouchables were converted, and are being converted every day by Christians. No Hindu speaks a word against that, because converts will be inferior to them. But as soon as they accept Islam, they become equal to the high castes – that is why the Hindus cannot tolerate it. Some people advise the Dalits to adopt Buddhism, which is a branch of Hinduism itself. Another thing to be kept in mind is that there are several castes among Hindus, and though all of them call themselves Hindu, there cannot be inter-marriages among them. But as soon a man embraces Islam, he is a member of the Islamic brotherhood and he can have marriage with old Muslims. In my own case, I am a convert and have married from the old Muslim family and my son has married the daughter of a Syed who is a coffee planter, The only way to progress for untouchables is to embrace Islam and no other way.
