New Delhi : 960 Untouchables were murdered in 1980 and 1981 in the country, Nihar Ranjan Laskar, Minister of State for Home, informed Parliament on Feb. 27. Total number of crimes during these two years against dalits was 26,748. Uttar Pradesh, according to the statement giving State-wise figures of crime, topped the list with 236 murders in 1980 and 214 till December 81. [Indian Express Feb. 27]
