34% of the World’s Poor in India  

New Delhi : The Government on Aug. 3 admitted in the Rajya Sabha that 34.2 per cent of the poor of the world are in India. Minister of State for Planning and Programme Implementation Sukh Ram said the UNDP in its latest human development report has also mentioned that 410 million people in India are poor according to the poverty data of 1990 (Deccan Herald, Aug.4).
